Crewe Street Dancers Shine in Debut Competition
Crewe based TGA have excelled in their first ever Street Dance Championship Competition.
TGA Street Dance Team were placed in a phenomenal second place in the North West Street Dance Championship, with seven-year-old Lexi Belle Percival achieving 5th place (in 35 entries) in the Solo Newcomer Under 8’s category.
Making their Street Dance Competition debut, the five girls who competed for the TGA team, took to the competition stage at Manchester’s Wright Robinson College on Sunday (20th Nov).
Teams were judged on a series of categories including their choreography, movement, variety and execution, paying attention to synchronicity and precision with timing.
In preparation for the competition, the girls have practised their routine once a week for three months at the club’s studio on Thomas Street in Crewe.
TGA hosts a Martial Arts Centre of Excellence across 12 locations in the UK. It has now developed to provide TGA Ladies Only Kickboxing, TGA Fitness and more recently, TGA Dance.
Street Dance is a very modern type of dance which is often seen as a form of expression and escapism for participants.
TGA Chief Executive Officer, Damian Glasheen, said: “I’m so proud of all of our members who took part in their first ever Street Dance Competition. To have been placed second in a competition across the North West when it’s the first time the girls have competed is a real achievement.
“Lexi Belle should be so proud of herself for getting so far when up against so many other solo dancers.
“As a club, we look forward to taking our Street Dancing provision forward and continuing to build on this first achievement.”
Kya Glasheen, from Sandbach High School, said: “I’m so happy to have come second with the TGA team in our first Street Dance Competition.
“We all worked so hard and were so pleased to have done so well in our first competition. I’m just looking forward to more competitions now!”
Choreographer and TGA Street Dance Teacher, Michaela Marchionne, said: “I’m very proud of the girls who have only just started Street Dance but who have very quickly picked it up. Their enjoyment of the dance is evident in how hard they’ve practiced to do as well as they have.
“Lexi’s solo performance was brilliant and the judges recognized their verdict.”
